The Post
Rushing provided Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Energy Modeling for LEED and SEC RS-29 compliance, as well as Sustainability/LEED Management for this 16-story, mixed-use, 200-unit apartment building located near the Colman Dock and Post Alley in Seattle. Rushing collaborated with the owner, Goodman Real Estate, and the project team to develop a smart, sustainable design while being strategically cost effective. The mechanical design includes a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system with non-ducted heat pump cassettes for heating and cooling at the residences and common areas. This strategy was pursued because VRF systems provide higher efficiency space conditioning than the standard residential approach of electric strip heating and chilled water fan coils. This project earned LEED-NC Certification at the “Certified” level.
Rushing also provided specialized lighting for all interior and exterior spaces, including a completely custom catenary lighting design in Post Alley and a unique reflecting pool on the roof terrace.
Water conservation strategies included water-efficient landscaping strategies and low-flow water-efficient showers, faucets, and toilets.
