Axle includes energy-efficient components such as a photovoltaic array, 95% efficiency domestic hot water boiler and energy recovery ventilators. Additional energy savings come from LED lighting systems, occupancy sensors and ENERGY STAR appliances. Water-saving features include low-flow plumbing fixtures and EPA WaterSense plumbing fixtures, as well as an efficient irrigation for the drought-tolerant landscaping plants. Axle has 75 bike storage spaces and five electric vehicle parking spaces to encourage eco-friendly transportation. These green features contribute to Axle’s pursuit of LEED for Homes Multifamily Gold certification. Rushing provided full MEP design services and energy modeling for LEED and Seattle Energy Code, as well as LEED for Homes Green Rater verification, LEED management and administration and LEED fundamental commissioning.
