LEED Green Associate, Associate AIA
As a Sustainability Consultant at Rushing, Marisa manages sustainability protocol pursuits for developers and architects of commercial, multifamily midrise and high rise, and public projects. This includes the LEED, Built Green, Evergreen Sustainable Development Standard, and Living Building Challenge protocols. She works to deliver top quality services, reports, and feasibility assessments for projects of all types and all scales. Focusing on the needs of the client first, Marisa’s leadership provides both small-scale attention to detail and big-picture thinking focused on the end goal.
Marisa has taken many roles in her career, including owner’s representative on construction projects, project manager for tenant improvements, and creative strategist for comprehensive community outreach. With sustainability as a core value of practice, Marisa’s philosophy is rooted in using design as a tool for positive change for both the natural and human-made environments. She previously worked with project teams around the world taking the lead in applying concepts of net positive energy and water, micro-mobility, urban agriculture, and equitable place in developing Living Buildings & Living Communities. She co-authored the Living Building Challenge Framework for Affordable Housing and was interviewed by The Urbanist for the 2016 Women Shaping Seattle series.
Marisa will always strive to be civically engaged in her local community. She is on the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Seattle and Design in Public (host of the Seattle Design Festival). Marisa has a B.S. in Architectural Studies from Washington State University.
