Carlos Herrera, a Mechanical Engineer at Rushing, found his passion for engineering through his affinity for mathematics and his love for hands-on activities. Engaging in various clubs and endeavors centered around construction and creation, Carlos discovered the vast opportunities within mechanical engineering, which offered him flexibility and diverse career paths upon graduating. His journey led him to intern at a small firm in Fremont, where he unearthed his passion for HVAC systems in smaller-scale building projects. Currently, Carlos’s work focuses on both mid-rise and high-rise projects, showcasing his adaptability and expertise in the field. Since joining Rushing, Carlos has broadened his expertise through collaborative efforts within the studio, gaining exposure to new sectors and delving into diverse system types.

Carlos takes pride in being a dependable colleague, always ready to lend an ear and share insights, contributing to a collaborative and supportive work environment. His dedication extends beyond professional endeavors, as he actively seeks opportunities to contribute to projects that make a positive impact on communities, particularly in affordable housing and low-income initiatives. Looking ahead, Carlos aims to further diversify his project experiences, aspiring to tackle unconventional challenges such as Passive House or Living Building projects. His commitment to continuous learning and growth is evident in his approach to and adaptability to industry advancements, demonstrated by his proactive involvement in strategizing solutions amidst the refrigerant phase-out. Through effective collaboration and communication within cross-functional teams, Carlos ensures a holistic approach to engineering solutions, emphasizing the importance of leveraging collective expertise.

Outside of work, Carlos finds solace in maintaining his physical health at the gym and cherishing moments with his beloved dogs, Juno and Jinju.
