Kellie Cobb has joined the Rushing team this summer as an electrical engineer intern. We asked Kellie to share about her experience joining a team remotely, what she’s looking forward to learning and what she’s been doing for fun lately.
Q. How has your experience been, starting an internship remotely?
A. Starting an internship remotely has been going well overall. Since making the transition during spring quarter to remote classes, I was already fairly well adjusted to the online format and working over Microsoft Teams. However, I do miss face-to-face interactions and wish I could meet and say” hi” to the team in person. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful which has helped me to feel connected and part of the team despite the remote work.
Q. What are you looking forward to learning during your internship?
A. I’m looking forward to continuing to increase my understanding and knowledge of the electrical design process for mid- and high-rise buildings. It’s been fascinating to learn about so many different parts that must be considered in the design, and to see how the different pieces I’ve worked on relate and come together within the larger process.
Q.What has surprised you about the work so far?
A. Honestly, everything has surprised me. I didn’t know too much about the industry before joining as an intern, so it’s been really fun discovering the electrical engineering work my team does. A fun fact I learned today is that little animals are often responsible for radial grid outages–I never would’ve guessed that!
Q. What are you doing for fun these days?
A. I am going on hikes and bike rides! It feels great to get out of the house and allows me to still maintain safe social distancing practices.
Q. What’s on your bucket list?
A. My bucket list “quarantine” items are improving my skills at swing dancing and ultimate frisbee!
