The Washington State Building Code Council (SBCC) declined to delay the implementation date of the 2021 code cycle during it’s Friday 4/21 meeting. The council discussed the delay and ultimately declined a motion to delay the codes, keeping the effective date of the 2021 codes as July 1, 2023.

The new 2021 Washington State Energy Code for commercial and residential projects are available online from the Washington State Building Code Council. The CR103 permanent rule for the 2021 commercial energy code was filed in July 2022, and the Cost Benefit analysis was published in June 2022. PNNL’s report on progress of the energy codes became available in February 2023.
